New Book Helps Fibromyalgia Sufferers

By Pati Chandler, the author

Mishawaka, IN  (July 7) - There are between six and twelve million Americans who suffer debilitating pain and
exhaustion. The cause? Fibromyalgia. With numbers this high, chances are you know someone who has it- a
family member, friend, co-worker, or even yourself. Fibromyalgia is often called the silent syndrome because
these sufferers have the outward appearance of being perfectly fine. That’s because pain is
invisible.

Managing Fibromyalgia- Getting to know your Aggravators  (Treble Heart Books publisher, ISBN 978-1-
932695-71-7 paperback $8.00, ISBN 978-1-932695-74-4 hardcover $14.95) addresses the often hidden and
unknown factors that aggravate the symptoms of Fibromyalgia. This three-part book consists of 1) a full
description of the syndrome with its numerous and varied disconnected symptoms, 2) a list of the most
common factors that aggravate those symptoms and how to help alleviate them, and 3) a description of
additional complementary and natural options that have proven helpful to relieve symptoms.

Even though an abundance of medical facilities and their research are cited throughout, Managing
Fibromyalgia is not bogged down with heavy medical jargon. In plain and simple English, Pati Chandler
describes what she has learned from a decade of research and her own trial and error techniques for
managing this perplexing syndrome.

This is a small book that is jam-packed with helpful information. “Fibromyalgia will change your life,”
Chandler says. “But you can choose the direction that change will take.” This book offers information to help
create a positive change and to help relieve much of the pain and exhaustion that defines this complex
syndrome.

Pati Chandler has had Fibromyalgia for ten years and has been researching the syndrome since day one
of her diagnosis. The debilitating pain, exhaustion and a number of other disconnected symptoms forced her
to give up her dream job of nine years with the Department of Natural Resources. It wasn’t until nearly a year
later and two other job attempts that she was finally able to begin controlling the symptoms well enough to get
a regular job of 30 hours a week at a large local retail store. She has been able to successfully juggle
working, writing, and managing Fibromyalgia all at the same time for the past eight years. She eagerly shares
this helpful information in the hopes that other Fibromyalgia sufferers will be able to learn how to manage their
symptoms.

Review of Managing Fibromyalgia by Pati Chandler
by Erin E. Schmidt, staff reporter
November 2008

I have known at least one person with fibromyalgia, and I’ve seen the
chaos it can wreak on the lives of the sufferer and those around him or
her.  Until I read
Managing Fibromyalgia: Getting to Know Your
Aggravators
by Pati Chandler of Mishawaka (Treble Heart Books, 2008),
I didn’t really understand what fibromyalgia was, or how difficult it is to
diagnose.

These facts are presented in Part I of
Managing Fibromyalgia.  Parts II
and III list the many, many factors that are known or suspected to
aggravate fibromyalgia, and offer practical suggestions on what the
sufferer can do to feel better.  Although the book is slim and can be read
in a few sittings, the sheer amount of research that went into this volume
makes it indispensable for anyone who has been diagnosed with
fibromyalgia.  Friends and family of those with fibromyalgia will also find
the book tremendously informative.
Besides all the research she’s done on the topic, Pati Chandler knows of which she writes from personal
experience.  She was diagnosed with fibromyalgia ten years ago.  She shares the techniques that have
worked in her life in the appendix to this book.  Her experience will be extremely helpful if you are dealing with
this medical condition in your own life.
A heartwarming family saga
